A beautifully hand-painted Orthodox icon depicting the Baptism of Christ, also known as Theophany, created in the Greek tradition during the mid to late 20th century. The central image is painted on a single solid wooden panel carved as a kovcheg, with the main scene recessed into the wood and framed by a slightly raised border, a classic feature of Byzantine and Greek icon-making.

The composition includes traditional details such as the Greek Christogram “IC XC” and symbolic elements associated with the Baptism narrative. The English title inscribed along the top suggests the piece was created either for an English-speaking Greek Orthodox community or produced for export.

The reverse of the panel features two wooden battens set into carved grooves and reinforced with screws. This combination of historic and practical construction methods is typical of mid–20th-century workshop production, helping stabilise the panel against warping.
