Description
Large 19th Century Woodland River Landscape Oil Painting, Signed Indistinctly
A large and atmospheric 19th-century woodland landscape, oil on canvas, depicting a shaded forest interior with a narrow river or stream running through the centre of the composition. Tall trees frame the scene on either side, while the reflective water draws the eye into the distance, creating a strong sense of depth and stillness.
The work is richly painted, with expressive brushwork and a deep palette of greens, blue-greens, yellows and shadowed earth tones. The handling of the foliage is particularly effective, capturing the impression of light filtering through dense leaves and branches. The scale gives the painting an impressive decorative presence, while the composition retains a quiet, intimate woodland atmosphere.
Presented in a gold painted wooden frame.
