Original acrylic on board by the Scottish artist Andrew Gilchrist, depicting the cherry blossom trees in The Meadows, Edinburgh.

The scene shows one of the park’s tree-lined walks in spring, with pink blossom forming a canopy above the path and the Meadows Pavilion visible through the trees to the right. Gilchrist’s distinctive handling gives the composition a lively, patterned quality, with dark trunks and branches cutting across the softer pinks, greens and pale spring light.

The work is signed and inscribed verso with the title The Meadows and medium, and retains a Society of Scottish Artists Ordinary Member label giving the artist’s name, Marchmont address, title and original price. A particularly appealing Edinburgh subject, combining a recognisable local view with Gilchrist’s bold, individual approach to colour and mark-making.
